Light commercial vehicles sales in Australia have helped bolster the country’s total sales year-to-date, and made up approximately 19% of what was sold during the month of April.

Significant SUV sales in April also helped improve the country’s total vehicle sales on the year, and accounted for roughly 44% of what was sold during the month, according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. Meanwhile, passenger cars accounted for 33% of  what was sold during April.

However, while the light commercial market is down by 1,016 vehicle sales in April, the heavy commercial vehicle market is up by 634 vehicle sales (25.2%) versus April 2017.

Comparing SUV sales from April 2017 to the same month this year, sale of small SUVs rose 33%, medium SUVs climbed 13%, large SUVs were up 4%, and upper large SUVs surged 21%.

The Toyota Hilux light commercial was the top-seller during April with 3,596 sales, followed by the Toyota Corolla with 2,979, then the Ford Ranger (2,796), Mazda3 (2,261) and the Toyota LandCruiser (2,018), the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries said in a release.

Toyota was the April market leader with a 20% share, followed by Mazda (9.3%), Hyundai (8.6%), Mitsubishi (6.6%) and Ford (5.8%).
