Kia Motors America is recalling over 27,000 2017 Kia Niro vehicles for Hydraulic Clutch Actuator (HCA) problems. Specifically, the inner oil seal may leak, leading to oil accumulation in the cap area.

This can potentially result in an electrical short, which can increase risk of a fire.

To remedy the problem, Kia will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the HCA caps for leaked oil. They will replace the HCA assembly and/or cap with additional sealant, if needed, at no cost to customers.

The recall begins on June 15. Owners can reach Kia customer service at (800) 333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC163.
