Fleet FAQ

Fleet FAQ? Driver Risk Management

Q. What are the goals of a risk management program?

A. Risk management programs can start with very narrow objectives, but you should consider what business problems you’re hoping to solve. Do you want to simply find the risky drivers or operations in your fleet? Do you want to reduce insurance premiums and claims payouts? Do you want sustained risk reduction over time? In all of these cases it is important to establish a system of continuous improvement.  The easiest method is to follow these 5 steps.

  1. Set expectations by deploying tools that convey the importance of road safety to your organization
  2. Find your baseline risk foundation
  3. Use tools that allow you to look at your risk profile holistically. You should always be able to have an instant view of the current state of fleet risk exposure
  4. Employ targeted risk improvement methods such as driver skills and behavior improvement training or operational transformation to reduce overall risk exposure
  5. Benchmark performance improvements
