Chevrolet will allow drivers to pay for fuel at participating Shell stations using a mobile app in the vehicle's infotainment system with a new electronic payment solution, General Motors has announced.

Users would touch the Shell app in the vehicle's Marketplace platform and select their station. The fuel payment is then charged to the payment method on file. Savings from Fuel Rewards would also be applied.

"We introduced Marketplace to deliver value, productivity and convenience to our customers," said Rick Ruskin, Chevrolet's senior manager of online commerce. "Bringing the Shell Pay & Save functionality right on the touchscreen of our vehicles is the latest advancement of this platform, allowing drivers to simply access Fuel Rewards and pay for gas while inside their car."

Chevrolet is testing the in-dash payment and savings at Shell-branded stations in select markets, and plans to offer it nationwide in the coming months. Marketplace is available in eligible 2017 model-year and newer Chevrolet vehicles in the U.S.
