Toyota South Africa has recalled more than 700,000 vehicles over airbag safety concerns, due to risks of the airbag bursting.

It affects some 730,000 locally-sold Toyota and Lexus models produced between 2002 and 2015. There are currently ten different model ranges, according to Bizcommunity.

This includes models of the Toyota Hilux, Rav4, and Fortuners built between July 2003 and December 2005, and Yaris, RunX, and Corolla models built between 2002 and 2007, according to Eyewitness News.

Affected customers are contacted directly by Toyota SA as well as their dealers to bring their vehicles in for the repair which is conducted free of charge. Toyota SA has established a dedicated Takata Call Centre to locate affected customers.
