Turkish automotive production through the first six months of 2017 has risen 20% year-over-year to 869,158 vehicles, according to Reuters.

However, that increase in production has not translated into an increase in domestic sales as many of the global manufacturers who have production plants in Turkey use those plants primarily for exports. Exports from Turkey have risen 29%, while domestic sales of cars and light and heavy commercial vehicles decreased 9% year-over-year.

Earlier this year, Turkey’s auto production hit a 10-year high in April, when production was up 42% year-over-year.
