Advanced Driver Training Services (ADTS) vice president Phil Moser will speak on "Impaired Driving – It's on the Rise and It Involves a Lot More than Just Alcohol," at the 2017 Fleet Safety Conference on July 25.

The increasing legalization of marijuana (for both medicinal and recreational uses), coupled with the startling rise in abuse of opioids and other pain medications, makes this topic especially timely and critical to address, according to the company.

"We are facing a new and unprecedented level of impaired driving risk on our roads, and it's no longer confined to alcohol," said Moser. "Fleet managers and their drivers need to be aware of the many other substances, both legal and illegal, that can impair driving, greatly increase the odds of a crash, and put everyone on the road at a high risk of injury or fatality."

Moser's presentation provides an in-depth review of how the impaired driving problem is changing; offers best practices to help fleet managers handle the issue effectively; and shares defensive driving techniques to help drivers avoid crashes with impaired motorists.

Moser was an accident investigation and reconstruction specialist with the Lower Providence (Pa.) Police Department for 11 years before joining ADTS.

Moser's session will run from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel in Schaumburg, Illinois.
