The 2018 Camry will feature an Linux open-source infotainment system when it arrives as an eighth generation model rather than adopting Google's Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, Reuters reported.

Toyota said the Automotive Grade Linux system gives the automaker flexibility to customise its software and keep the data of its users. The system will operate its suite of in-vehicle apps and could be expanded to other models and Lexus vehicles.

About 70% of the operating platform consists of generic coding, while about 30% has been customized for the Camry.
