In a bid to increase adoption of its vehicles, Tesla Inc. plans to increase the number of public charging stations starting this summer, the company announced in an April 24 blog post.

By the end of 2017, Tesla plans to double the number of Supercharger stations from the more than 5,400 of the 480-volt fast-charging stations operating in early 2017 around the globe. Tesla plans to add 1,000 Superchargers in California. The company has begun site selection and will begin construction on many sites ahead of the summer travel season, according to the company.

Tesla will begin delivering its more affordable Model 3 in the second half of the year and will continue to increase production of the Model S sedan and Model X crossover.

Tesla electrified its Supercharger network in 2012. The company has also built 9,000 Destination Charging connectors at hotels, resorts, and restaurants with a wall connector.
