Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling 45,731 2015 model-year Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUVs that are equipped with a 2.0L engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The vehicles were manufactured from June 25, 2014, through Nov. 25, 2015. During assembly, a clamp for a CVT hose may not have been properly secured, allowing the hose to detach and leak transmission fluid, NHTSA said. If enough transmission fluid leaks out, the transmission may not function properly and the vehicle may become inoperable.

Additionally, leaking transmission fluid poses a fire risk.

Mitsubishi dealers will inspect the hose clamps and correct their installation if needed.

Vehicle owners can reach Mitsubishi customer service at (888) 648-7820. Mitsubishi’s number for this recall is SR-16-005.
