BMW is taking a more measured approach to battery-electric vehicles and will introduce a flagship EV called the iNext that will supplant its 7-Series sedan in 2021, its CEO told shareholders on May 12.

The iNext will be "our new innovation driver, with autonomous driving, digital connectivity, intelligent lightweight design, a totally new interior and ultimately bringing the next generation of electro-mobility to the road," said Harald Krueger, BMW AG's CEO, via Bloomberg.

BMW has been showing concept vehicles such as the BMW Vision Next 100 Concept, and will update its EV lineup by giving its i3 a 50% electric range boost and introducing the i8 Roadster in 2018, according to Autoblog.
