Hyundai Motor America is recalling 2,263 2016 model-year Hyundai Tucson SUVs equipped with an accessory trailer hitch harness, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The SUVs at issue were manufactured from May 26, 2015, to Jan. 15 of this year. The tow hitch harnesses were either included with an accessory trailer hitch or sold as a service part.

When the vehicle’s engine is running, the brake lights are illuminated, and the turn signal is activated, the trailer turn signal lights will either turn off or remain continuously illuminated — not flash. Consequently, these vehicles fail to comply with federal safety standards, NHTSA said.

Hyundai dealers will update the tow hitch harness, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 6.

Vehicle owners can reach Hyundai customer service at (855) 371-9640. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 142.
