Hyundai Motor America is recalling 18,700 2012 model-year Genesis and 2011-2013 Equus sedans because of a potential problem with the windshield wipers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The windshield wiper motor cover seal on these vehicles may degrade, allowing corrosion on the wiper motor's circuit board. This corrosion can cause intermittent or total loss of wiper function, posing a safety threat, NHTSA said.

The recall covers Genesis vehicles manufactured from Aug. 1, 2011, to April 30, 2012, and Equus vehicles manufactured from July 10, 2011, to June 12, 2012.

Hyundai dealers will replace the wiper motor cover and seal, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 22.

Vehicle owners can reach Hyundai customer service at (800) 633-5151. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 140.
