Maserati has released the initial images of its first luxury SUV that it plans to unveil at the Geneva International Motor Show that runs from March 3-13.

The Levante will join the Maserati lineup that now includes the Quattroporte, Ghibli, GranTurismo and GranCabrio models.

Initial images show the Levante's aggressive front, tapered headlights, three air vents on the front wings, the trapezoidal C-pillar with the Saetta logo, large, frameless door windows, and a tapered back window.

The Levante's chassis will emphasize handling especially on low-grip surfaces and "excellent off-road performance," according to a release. The vehicle will use electronic suspension with controlled damping and air springs that can be set on several levels, Q4 intelligent all-wheel drive, and an 8-speed automatic transmission calibrated for SUV.

The vehicle will be offered initially in Europe with Euro6-compliant gasoline and diesel engines.

The Levante will be built in Turin, Italy. Maserati will begin selling the vehicle in Europe in the spring and other global markets including the U.S. later this year.
