Toyota Motor Sales USA is recalling approximately 26,000 2013-2016 model-year Scion FR-S sport coupes because of a potential problem with the ignition key interlock.

In these cars, connectors for the automatic transmission key interlock might not have been connected during pre-delivery service, prior to sale, Toyota said. If this delivery mode connector wasn't connected, the driver may be able to remove the key in gear positions other than “park.” In such a case, the vehicle would fail to comply with all federal safety standards and would be at a higher risk for a rollaway crash.

Toyota dealers will confirm that the ignition key interlock is functioning properly or, if needed, connect the delivery mode connectors to eliminate the problem. There will be no charge for this service, Toyota said.

Vehicle owners can reach Toyota customer service at (800) 331-4331.
