Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 2,618 2014-2015 model-year B-Class Electric Drive vehicles because a communication error within the electric drive system might unexpectedly shut down the electric powertrain.
The recall affects vehicles manufactured from Nov. 21, 2013, to May 26 of this year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If such an electric powertrain shutdown occurs, the vehicle would temporarily be immobilized and suffer a loss of propulsion power. Stalling increases the risk of a crash.
MBUSA dealers will update the electric drive system software, free of charge, to resolve the problem. The recall is expected to begin in December.
Vehicle owners can reach MBUSA customer service at (800) 367-6372.
