Volkswagen Group of America is recalling 993 2015 model-year Jetta, Golf and e-Golf cars because their passenger occupant detection systems may be defective, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The front passenger air bag in these cars might not deploy properly during a crash, according to NHTSA. The recall covers Jetta cars manufactured from Sept. 8, 2014, to November 28, 2014; Golf cars manufactured from April 2, 2014, to Dec. 3, 2014; and E-Golf vehicles manufactured from July 26, 2014, to Oct. 18, 2014.

Volkswagen dealers will replace the passenger occupant detection system control module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in November.

Car owners can reach Volkswagen customer service at (800) 893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69L6.
