Hyundai Motor America is recalling 99,500 2009-2011 model-year Hyundai Accent cars so dealers can replace defective brake light switches.
The recalled subcompact cars were manufactured from March 1, 2009, to Feb. 11, 2011.
“A malfunctioning brake light switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal,” NHTSA said.
Additionally, a malfunctioning brake light switch may prevent the shifter from being moved out of the “park” position, NHTSA said.
There will be no charge for the brake light switch replacement. The recall is expected to begin Nov. 2. Vehicle owners can reach Hyundai customer service at (855) 671-3059. They can also learn more about the recall by clicking here.
Hyundai’s number for this recall is 131. This recall is an expansion of 13V-113.
