Motorola Solutions (MSI) has expanded a managed services agreement that supports Chilean timber producer Forestal Mininco's mission-critical communications system and provides extended coverage and 2,350 new terminals, according to the company.

The system, which includes the messaging application TETRA, is used by Forestal Mininco to improve employee safety and security, operational efficiency and the company’s impact on the environment. Forestal Mininco uses TETRA to manage its fleet and track radios in the field, removing the need to physically go to the radio locations.

Forestal Mininco's expanded TETRA system will receive 10 new radio frequency sites as well as new applications and portable devices to increase coverage in the rugged geographic area. The new system will include two sites connected through satellite links that will considerably improve mobile signal and coverage, enabling communications in difficult-to-access places, according to the company.
