Tata Motors received an order from the Indian army for 1,200 of its 6-by-6 multi-axle trucks.

The trucks will assist with the loading, unloading, and transportation of ammunition pallets, spares and other operational equipment, the company announced.

This is the largest land systems order from the Indian army given to an Indian private original equipment manufacturer.

The Tata 6-by-6 truck is designed to handle extreme on- or off-road loads in demanding conditions and has gone through trials at Vehicle Research and Development Establishment’s torture track.

Features include a central tire inflation system for mobility in soft sand desert conditions, which allows the driver to adjust tire pressure from his seat.

The vehicle can also sustain speed of 40 kmph on severe cross country terrains.
