Volkswagen has introduced its new California camper, based on the recently introduced sixth-generation Transporter.

The base-model, the California Beach, is equipped with seven seats, a manual pop-up tent, and a removable picnic table with folding chairs, which are integrated into the sliding door and tailgate, according to Worldcarfans.com. The Beach, along with the other two models, comfortably sleeps five people, with a folding couch seat in the rear, a double bed in the pop-up roof, and a standard double in the cabin.

The mid-level model, the California Coast, offers additional amenities which include furniture with aluminum and wood accents, a stainless steel sink, two gas stoves, and a 42-liter cooler.

And lastly, the highest-tier model, the California Ocean, offers auxiliary heated seating, dimmable LED lights, double glazed windows, and an electro-hydraulically operated roof.

The California is available in a full range of TDI engines with outputs that range from 84 PS to 204 PS, and will eventually offer two petrol engines, with ranges from 150 PS to 204 PS. The California is also about 15% more economical than the previous model due to BlueMotion Technology with engine start-stop, according to Autoevolution.com.

The California can be ordered in Germany and starts at 41,429.85 euros ($46,682).
