Volvo Cars will display the bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) versions of its 2016 V60 and V70 cars at the World Gas Conference (WGC) in Paris from June 1-5.
The CNG vehicles feature a Drive-E powertrain using new combustion technology from Westport Innovations, according to the natural gas fueling system provider.
Westport's system will be used on Volvo's new two-liter, direct injection, four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain family, which will be available on the Volvo V60 and V70 2016 models, Westport said. This engine offers 245 hp and 350NM in torque, with emissions as low as 40g CO2/km (according to the Swedish Transport Administration's calculation method for biomethane).
Although Volvo currently sells bi-fuel CNG vehicles in Sweden only, Westport is open to introducing this model in other European markets depending on customer demand.
