The two independent distributors of new Toyota vehicles in the U.S. – Gulf States Toyota and Southeast Toyota Distributors – are recalling 2015 model-year Toyota Sienna minivans equipped with non-OEM overhead entertainment accessories installed by them.
Gulf States Toyota is recalling 387 of the Sienna minivans, and Southeast Toyota is recalling 262, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
During reassembly of the interior, after installing the after-market entertainment system, installers may have reused the trim panel-securing clip instead of replacing it. If the clip suffered damage during the entertainment system installation, the clip might detach and strike a vehicle occupant if the side curtain air bag deploys during a crash, NHTSA said.
Dealers will replace the trim panel securing clips, free of charge, to fix the problem. The Gulf States Toyota recall is set to get under way on June 8 (recall number 15R1). Gulf States Toyota customer service can be reached at (800) 444-1074.
The Southeast Toyota Distributors recall is due to begin June 15 (recall ID SET15B). Vehicle owners can reach Southeast Toyota Distributors at (866) 405-4226.
