Nissan Australia has confirmed that it will keep its casting and parts factory in Dandenong South open "well beyond 2020," according to a report, which you can view here.

The announcement was made after Nissan Australia secured a deal to continue manufacturing parts for the Nissan LEAF and 38 other models sold internationally. The Nissan factory has been running around the clock, three shifts, seven days a week for the past six months. It exports components to Japan, the U.S., the UK, Thailand, Mexico, and South Korea, according to the report.

The facility employes about 160 people and makes components for a number of vehicles in addition to the LEAF, including the Navara pickup, X-Trail SUV. These components are all marked with a small kangaroo, according to the report.

In addition to working on a new casting process that will save up to AU$100,000 per year in production of a single component, the factory has also secured a deal to produce parts for a top-secret future car, according to the report.
