Porsche will begin offering a rear seat entertainment system for its four-door vehicles, including the Cayenne luxury SUV, Macan compact SUV, and Panamera.

The rear seat entertainment system, which debuted on the Panamera Turbo S Exclusive Series, includes two high-resolution (1280x800) 10.1-inch touchscreen displays integrated into the front seat backrests.

The system includes an integrated DVD player, two USB ports, an SD card slot and an HDMI port to allow connection of an external video game console. The displays also include a camera for video calls. The system supports several audio and video formats.

The Wi-Fi Crosslink Streaming function allows videos to be displayed on both screens via a direct Wi-Fi connection. The sound is delivered via Bluetooth using the two wireless headphones, included as standard. The package is also available in a Plus version that offers an internal 32 GB Flash drive for saving multimedia files.

A browser allows mobile Internet access, and a special app lets you send and receive emails on the road. Additional apps, such as games or video call apps, can be downloaded from an online store.

A smartphone or tablet can use a corresponding app as a remote control for the system. The system will retail for $2,590; the Plus version retails for $2,890.
