Infiniti plans to put into production its QX30 concept compact SUV debuting at the Geneva International Motor Show, as an aggressive attempt to seek market share in potentially the automotive industry's hottest segment.

The QX30 would likely slot below the QX50 in the Nissan-owned brand's utility lineup that also includes the QX60, QX70 and QX80. The vehicle would likely compete with the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Lexus NX, and Buick Encore.

The QX30 concept, which has all-wheel drive, is a precursor to a production vehicle because Infiniti has "announced a definite and clear intent for production," according to a release.

The eventual QX30 could be offered in gasoline and diesel powertrains, according to Infiniti.
