Hyundai Motor America is recalling 204,768 2008-2010 model-year Elantra sedans and 2009-2010-MY Elantra Touring hatchbacks because they’re at risk for sudden loss of power steering, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The problem stems from the power steering electronic control unit (ECU), which may sense a discrepancy in the steering input signals and mistakenly disable the steering power assist.

Hyundai dealers will assess the electronic power steering and update the control unit, as needed. There will be no charge for this service.

Vehicle owners can reach Hyundai at (855) 671-3059. The automaker’s number for this recall is 127.
