General Motors will update its Chevrolet Equinox compact SUV for the 2016 model year and unveil the new vehicles at the Chicago Auto Show on Feb. 12, the automaker announced.

The Equinox is Chevrolet's second-best seller behind the Silverado pickup and a popular vehicle in fleets. Commercial fleets added 15,006 Equinox SUVs in 2013, and rental fleets added 20,317. Government fleets added 1,702.

General Motors sold almost 20,000 Equinox SUVs in January for the model's best January since it began production as a 2005-MY vehicle. GM sold 242,242 Equinox SUVs in the U.S. in 2014. Compact SUVs have eclipsed mid-size cars as the automotive industry's largest segment.
