Ford Recalls Police Interceptors for Door Springs

Ford Motor Co. is recalling certain 2010-2013 Ford Police Interceptor sedans so dealers can address an issue with the spring that controls the interior door handles, the automaker said.

If the spring is unseated, the door may become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury, Ford said.

Dealers will inspect all four interior door handle assemblies and repair or replace the handles as needed. There will be no charge for this service.

The recalled Police Interceptors were built from Dec. 1, 2009, to July 31, 2010, and from Feb. 1, 2011, to Nov. 30, 2012, at an assembly plant in Chicago.

The action is part of a broader recall involving 205,000 2010-2013 model-year vehicles. The Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS are also part of this recall.

Ford said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the door spring issue.
