BMW Showcasing Automated Driving at CES

BMW will highlight some the company’s new technology including a new automated driving feature at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.

BMW talked about its plan to implement "highly automated driving" at last year’s CES. This year, the German automaker will demonstrate how the technology works. By integrating wearables, a driver can call their battery-electric BMW i3 and request a pick up using voice commands on a specially-designed Smartwatch.

BMW will also introduce lighting technologies and driver interface advancements, the automaker announced. BMW experts will also be onsite to discuss research projects focused on 360-degree collision avoidance and fully automated Remote Valet Parking Assistant.

The 360-degree collision avoidance has four advanced laser scanners that identifies objects in a parking lot to avoid. The vehicle brakes automatically if the system detects an obstacle. The valet parking assist feature can also navigate through a multi-level garage.
