The Volkswagen Group has signed an agreement with Stallion Group to establish a vehicle assembly plant in Nigeria, marking the automaker's return to the country after its departure more than two decades ago.

Stallion, a regional conglomerate, is already the exclusive distributor for volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, and Porsche in the country, reprts the Nigerian Tribune.

"Volkswagen is on a constant global search for market and sales potential," said Jan Utermarck, Volkswagen's executive director of sales, CIS, for the Middle East and Africa. "Nigeria is the largest automotive market in the Sub-Saharan region. Hence, we appreciate the fact that we have found a professional partner in Stallion to launch a local vehicle assembly in Lagos, starting in 2015.”

Stallion will initially assemble the Jetta, Volkswagen CC, and Amarok models.
