Toyota is investing $126 million in its southeast Michigan R&D campus for the expansion of its powertrain operations in Ann Arbor and consolidation of vehicle development operations at a new York Township campus.

Toyota is centralizing vehicle development and powertrain functions in Michigan, a move that will involve shifting 85 jobs from California by the end of 2016. The move comes a year after Toyota announced it would invest $28 million in expanding its Ann Arbor operations. Toyota has also shifted 250 direct procurement and supplier engineering development positions from Erlanger, Ky.

Toyota is establishing a new headquarters in Plano, Texas, expected to be ready in 2017.
