The national average price of gasoline fell 9.9 cents to $2.679 per gallon for the week ending Dec. 8 and is now more than $1 less per gallon than it was just six months ago.

The continuing slide in gasoline prices, which has mirrored the fall in crude-oil prices, again fell in nine regions tracked by the U.S. Department of Energy. The price is 59 cents lower than it was a year ago. The price of a gallon of unleaded had its steepest decline in the Midwest of 12.9 cents to $2.586. The average price is remains lowest in the Gulf Coast region where it costs $2.44 on average.

Gasoline prices have fallen below $3 per gallon in all but four states (Hawaii, Alaska, New York, and Connecticut), and below $2.75 per gallon in 30 states. Missouri has the lowest average price of $2.37 per gallon, according to the AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Meanwhile, the average price of diesel fell 7 cents to $3.535 for the week. Diesel fuel is now 34.4 cents lower than a year ago.
