MobilityWorks is recalling 834 Ford vans the company modified because the Ricon-manufactured wheelchair lifts may be defective, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

MobilityWorks, headquartered in Ohio, is recalling 2006-2014 model-year Ford E150, E250 and E350 vans equipped with wheelchair lifts manufactured by Ricon Corp. The platform side plate of the wheelchair lifts may crack, causing the lift platform to separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the doors are opened, the platform may fall out, increasing the risk of injury to the lift operator, NHTSA said.

MobilityWorks will notify affected van owners, and Ricon will supply supplemental platform support bumpers. Any platform that has already started cracking will be replaced, free of charge.

Van owners can reach MobilityWorks customer service at (800) 769-8267 or Ricon Corp. customer service at (800) 322-2884.
