Tesla Motors is talking with BMW about collaborating on batteries and lightweight auto parts, CEO Elon Musk said in an interview with German weekly news publication Der Spiegel.

In the interview, Musk said the possible collaboration could focus on future battery technology and charger stations. The CEO also said he hopes to have a battery production plant built in Germany by 2020.

BMW has not commented on the rumored partnership, but a Tesla spokesperson says the talks have been “casual.”
