Hyundai’s Elantra, also known as Avante in other parts of the world, sold its 10 millionth unit globally, the company said Tuesday.

The Elantra launched 24 years ago in 1990 and sold an average of 420,000 vehicles per year.

The compact sedan is Hyundai’s first model to reach this milestone. Some other manufacturer’s to hit these sales include the Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Golf and Beetle, Honda Civic and Ford Focus.

The Elantra was named North American Car of the Year award in 2012. J.D. Power’s 2014 U.S. Initial Quality Study ranked the vehicle highest in its segment for its initial quality. Elantra is also the three-time recipient (2011, 2012 and 2013) of the ALG Residual Value Awards and remains one of the top-shopped vehicles in the segment.
