The UAE has announced it will pay the U.S. Dh9.2 billion to upgrade its military vehicles to better prepare the country's protection force, according to a report in The National UAE.

The U.S. State Department said the UAE intends to use the vehicles to conduct humanitarian assistance operations and to protect vital international commercial trade rotes as well as critical infrastructure, according to the report. The deal is expected to be in force for three years.

The vehicles that will be upgraded include more than 4,500 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehilces as well as 1,150 Caiman multiterrian vehicles without armor, according to the report.
