Ford Motor Co.'s 2014 Fiesta subcompact car equipped with a 1-liter, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine is the most fuel efficient non-hybrid gasoline car in the U.S., according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA has certified the 2014 Fiesta to get a combined 37 miles per gallon, including 32 mpg city and 45 mpg highway. The 2014 Fiesta arrives at dealerships in December. Ford is debuting the 1-liter EcoBoost engine with the vehicle.

By comparison, the 2014 Honda Insight achieves 44 mpg highway, while the Volkswagen Golf diesel with manual transmission delivers 42 mpg highway.

The 1-liter five-speed manual transmission Ford Fiesta will cost $16,740. It will also be offered in a hatchback version. The base Fiesta arrives with a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine that gets a combined 32 mpg, including 29 mpg city and 39 mpg highway.
