The 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage subcompact car has achieved an EPA window sticker rating of 44 miles per gallon highway and 37 mpg city.

The Mirage's combined 40 mpg is the highest rating today for a non-hybrid gasoline vehicle, according to the automaker. The five-door Mirage hatchback is offered in the DE and ES trim levels, and starts at $12,995.

A 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine powers the Mirage, using variable valve timing to increase engine efficiency. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission.
