A fleet of "smart" ambulances that allow EMTs to monitor the condition of patients on the way to the hospital are rolling out in Dubai, reports The National.

The vehicles, which were shown at the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference, will be "the first of its kind in the world," according to Omar Al Sakkaf, director of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.

"We use the sun to power the lights in the vehicle," Sakkaf added. "It has a smart stretcher and a child's seat. It's made of carbon fibre, so it is light and can travel fast."
