The Qatar Tourism Authority will launch a 4x4 leasing company to rent out a fleet of vehicles to desert safari tour operators to reduce private and unlicensed dune driving.

Successful bidders would receive financial assistance and free marketing to help their businesses get off the ground as part of the program, reports Doha News.

The authority is also expected to develop safety regulations such as requiring vehicles to be outfitted with roll bars, first-aid kits, radio equipment, and rigid "bull bars" attached to the front of vehicles to protect occupants.
