Costa Rica has begun adding Toyota Prius gasoline-electric hybrids to the country's taxi fleet as part of the country's goal to become carbon neutral by 2021, reports the Costa Rica News.

The country's Ministry of Environment and Energy obtained the taxis with a line of credit of up to $200 million from the Export-Import Bank of Japan. The funds will be distributed through national banks as loans to taxi operators who want to update their taxis.

So far, there are about 50 applications for the new taxis.
