General Motors is recalling 656 2014 model-year Cadillac ELR luxury plug-in hybrids so that dealers can recalibrate the electronic brake control module, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
The Cadillac ELR recall, expected to get under way on April 17, affects vehicles manufactured Sept. 26, 2013, through Feb. 14, and equipped without adaptive cruise control. The electronic stability control (ESC) system software may hinder certain diagnostic functions, so the driver may not be alerted when the system is partially or fully disabled, NHTSA said.
Consequently, these Cadillac ELR extended-range electric vehicles fail to conform to all federal safety standards. Drivers unaware of an ESC malfunction might continue driving, which poses a safety risk.
To resolve the problem, Cadillac dealers will recalibrate the electronic brake control module (EBCM). There will be no charge for this service.
Vehicle owners can reach Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14087.
