DB Schenker Logistics has opened a new multi-customer facility in Kenya. Customers from industrial, electronics, healthcare, and consumer industries will benefit from the high-quality services DB Schenker is offering, according to the company.

The facility is located on the main highway from the port of Mombasa to the East Africa hinterland and only five kilometers away from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, giving it a very strategic position from both accessibility and future growth perspective, according to the company. The modern DB Schenker logistics center offers a total area of 11,800 square meters, with 6,200 square meters warehouse and 5,600 square meters open yard operations.

“We have managed to secure new accounts due to our reputation for good service delivery. This new logistics center will offer services for customers like GlaxoSmithkline and Organo Gold, who have awarded us their warehouse and transportation services for the domestic Kenyan market as well as to other markets in East and Central Africa,” said Ako Djaf, DB Schenker, regional product manager logistics, Near Middle East & East Africa.

The success of contract logistics in Kenya is the result of exceeding customer expectations through the implementation and strict follow up of standard operating procedures and key performance indicators based on the customers agreed service levels, according to the company.

“Continuous improvement initiatives like monthly productivity monitoring, recognition of highly productive staff, training, and development programs have led to optimized productivity and leadership evolution in our team,” said Henrik Sorensen, CEO of Schenker Ltd., the Kenyan arm of DB Schenker.

Schenker Ltd. operates four offices, two being in Nairobi and one at Mombasa Port and one at the Malaba Border with a staff of 139, offering domestic distribution, global air and ocean freight, and comprehensive contract logistics and supply chain services.
