Waitrose has named the Widdowson Group, a retail logistics specialists group in the UK, as its official Midlands logistics partner. Widdowson said that although Waitrose has its own dedicated fleet, in the past it has used nominated carriers for delivery and collection work in the North and South of the country.

Kit Woodward, supply chain development manager for Waitrose, made the decision to appoint the Widdowson Group as Waitrose’s first Midlands nominated carrier. The contract involves transporting both full and groupage loads to Waitrose distribution centers in Aylesford, Bardon, Bracknell, and in Milton Keynes - Brinklow and Celestia.

The Widdowson Group has more than 550,000 sq. ft. of warehousing at its Leceister-based headquarters. Widdowson has a fleet of 120 vehicles, including panic vans, 44 tonne artics, and more than 200 trailers.
