Australian-based global electric vehicle (EV) charging company Jolt will partner with trade hardware store chain Mitre 10 to roll out a network of fast EV chargers across New Zealand over the next few years.
Powered by 100% renewable and green-certified wind and solar energy, the first installations are scheduled in July at Mitre 10 locations in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
“Drivers pull up, plug in, and are on their way in 20 minutes, receiving up to 7kWh free per day, saving over $1,000 a year by charging with Jolt,” said Chris Monaghan, Jolt New Zealand country manager. The free 7kWh charge provides 25-37 miles (40-50 kilometers) of range depending on the type of vehicle. Charging fees for more than 7kWh can be paid via the Jolt app.
“We are selecting charger locations based on where it is most convenient for EV drivers within the urban areas, so we don’t disrupt their routine,” said Monaghan.
“Jolt is investing in New Zealand as there is strong momentum within the market to change to an EV,” said Doug McNamee, Jolt CEO and founder. “Through our partnerships with the leading retail brands and the local governments in New Zealand, we want to create a large and leading EV charging network that provides the best charging experience for all EV drivers in New Zealand.”
