Tesla recently issued two separate safety recalls for two different problems that impact a total of over 602,000 vehicles.

Specifically, Tesla is recalling an estimated 594,717 2020-2022 Model Y, Model X, Model S, and 2017-2022 Model 3 vehicles for a problem with its forward collision avoidance system. The Boombox function allows sounds to be played through an external speaker while the vehicle is in motion, which may obscure the Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) sounds.

This creates a dangerous situation because pedestrians may be unaware of an approaching vehicle if the PWS sounds are obscured, which increases the likelihood of a crash.

To fix the problem, Tesla will perform an over-the-air (OTA) software update that will disable the Boombox functionality when the vehicle is in Drive, Neutral and Reverse modes, including Summon and Smart Summon, at no cost to owners.

Owner notification letters will be mailed June 6. Tesla's reference number for this recall is SB-22-00-003. Owners should also be aware that this recall supersedes recall 22V-063. Vehicles configured with Summon or Smart Summon and already remedied under 22V-063 will need to have the new remedy software installed.

In a second action, Tesla is recalling approximately 7,289 2021-2022 Model X vehicles for an air bag issue. Specifically, the left or right front-row side curtain air bags may not deploy as intended when the windows are lowered.

This scenario can be hazardous as a malfunction in side curtain airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

To remedy the matter, Tesla Service Centers will replace the left and right front-row side curtain air bags, free of charge.

Owner notification letters will be mailed June 7. Tesla's reference number for this recall is SB-22-20-003.

Owners can reach Tesla customer service at (877) 798-3752.
