Audi is rolling out an updated and subtly restyled version of its smaller luxury sedan, the A3, for the 2022 model year packed with an array of new amenities.
Among notable changes is the boost in size, making the A3 less of a compact with more passenger space. The new A3 will project a more robust appearance; its length increases from 175.5 to 177.2 inches, width from 70.7 in. to 71.7 in., and height from 55.7 in. to 56.3 in.
According to Audi, here is a preview of the attributes and advances that define the 2022 Audi A3:
Engine: The four-cylinder 2.0 TFSI engine with a 48-volt MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) system is available in either the FWD S tronic for efficient operation or the quattro S tronic all-wheel drivetrain for reinforced stability and secure handling. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission provides 201 hp and 236 lb-ft. of torque.
Design: The driver-centric design of the Audi A3 interior offers an available virtual cockpit display that puts the desires of the driver first. Premium materials and finishes provide comfort and style.
Technology: Marking a continued evolution in advanced design and technology, the Audi A3 will include the MMI® touch display infotainment system centered on a 10.1-inch screen for a vivid, driver-centric view. There is a new feature, a head-up display that provides all the relevant information a driver needs projected within their field of vision5.
Optional technology amenities include: Wireless device charger for compatible devices to supplement USB ports, semi-autonomous parking aid, premium sound system from Bang & Olufsen, and multi-color interior ambient lighting.
Driver Assistance: The Audi A3 also takes bold strides in driver assistance features, with the Audi adaptive cruise assist designed to maintain a preset distance to the vehicle ahead while keeping the vehicle centered in the lane. This deters the driver from having to slam on the brakes. At night, the Matrix-design LED headlights enhance driver vision through LED for both high-beam and low-beam as well as multiple segment LED daytime running lights.
The A3 will be offered in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims like that of other Audi models now on sale.
Premium: Among all the standard features of the premium trim version, these really standout for drivers and passengers: 8-way power front seats with 4-way power lumbar, Audi smartphone interface with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for compatible devices, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, heated front seats, keyless engine start/stop1, lane departure warning2, panoramic sunroof, rearview camera, speed-sensitive electromechanical power steering, split-folding rear seatback, and interior storage package w/two rear USB-C charge ports.
Premium Plus: In addition to all the standard features on the premium, the premium plus adds on: Adaptive cruise control, Audi active lane assist, Audi phone box light for wireless charging3, a convenience package, a garage door opener from HomeLink, and LED headlights with DRL signature.
Prestige: For the Prestige, Audi includes standard and premium plus amenities and adds on: Agate gray fine grain birch wood inlays, animation for headlights and taillights, head-up display, headlamp washer system, LED interior lighting plus package, Matrix design LED headlights, and a technology package.
The A3 MSRP starts at about $33,900 in entry-level Premium trim and increases to around $42,500 for the range-topping Prestige trim4. Those prices are for FWD models; choosing quattro AWD adds $2,000 to all A3 trim levels.
The A3 will be sold exclusively in sedan form in North America, while the hatchback Sportback model will be sold in Europe and other global markets.
Overall, the 2022 Audi A3 emerges as an automotive role model in its class, achieving a balance of comfort, design, technology, safety and performance. To learn more about the 2022 Audi A3: https://www.audiusa.com/us/web/en/models/a3/a3/2022/overview.html
