Diesel Prices Continue Increase, Hit $2.67

National average diesel fuel prices were $2.67 per gallon as of Jan. 11, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This uptick continues the rising trend we have seen since early November 2020, and is now matching prices seen in late March 2020.

While only a $0.03 increase from the previous week, overall national average prices are syill down around 40 cents per gallon compared to same time last year, but the gap is closing.

In 2020, a peak of $3.08 occured the week of Jan. 6 and diesel prices had, on average, declined or remained stable until early November. Prices experienced a steady rise throughout the remainder of 2020.

National average gasoline prices are still down year-over-year but are also continuing an increase week-over-week with U.S. national averages hitting $2.32 per gallon as of Jan. 11, 2021.

Current average diesel prices by region decreased between $0.35 and $0.48, according to the EIA, due in part to a typical price rise this time of year that prices have not matched. All regions saw some increase week-over-week.

• Rocky Mountains: $2.59
• West Coast: $3.14
