Fleet FAQ? Data-Driven Fleet Management

Q. We’d like to add some electric vehicles to the fleet—we had a pre-COVID mandate to go 100% EV in five years—however, with gasoline prices falling and the near-term economic uncertainties—are electric vehicles still a relevant option for fleets?

A. The short answer is—yes!

EVs present fleets with a number of long-term benefits, including:

  • The ability to significantly cut maintenance costs.
  • Longer lasting batteries, thus less reliance on fossil fuels.
  • A growing used EV market, which means increased residual value.

So, on balance, EVs have unique benefits related to maintenance and fueling, along with improved options for resale.

In addition, this may be a good time for fleet operators to plan for charging infrastructure to accommodate future EV procurement, which will help simplify the integration of the vehicles into your fleet.

And. best of all. there may be stimulus packages that could be used to purchase EVs without breaking your budget.

To determine your future EV game plan, it is worthwhile to complete a Geotab Electric Vehicle Suitability Assessment. With this assessment, you can determine which internal combustion vehicles are ideal candidates to be replaced with an EV and/or which EV option will be the best fit and save you the most money.
